Billing Specialist

Reports to: Billing Supervisor

The Billing Specialist is responsible in reviewing accuracy of deliveries and billing clean claims for the services we have provided

Essential Functions

  • Confirms ten (10) sales orders per hour and ensures delivery tickets are accurate per payer rules and guidelines
  • Processes billing tasks on a daily basis
  • Assists in collection efforts by keeping payer rules up to date
  • Performs month end reconciliation, assisting other departments as needed
  • Manages payer portfolio, unbilled reports and billing tasks
  • Meets daily, monthly and quarterly metrics and goals set by management
  • Ensures work being performed meets internal and external compliance requirements
  • Researches Claim Rejections
  • Demonstrates the willingness and ability to work collaboratively with other key internal staff

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, copy and fax machines.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some flexibility. This position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work as job duties demand.


No travel responsibilities.

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Two (2) years related experience preferred; healthcare, medical office, customer service preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of products including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Strong basic math and accounting skills
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Must possess a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to work independently at times and within a team
  • Ability to adapt to change
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to interact in a collaborative manner with other departments and teams
